SCI India works through voluntary work camps and other actions with national branches / groups . In India it has five groups in places such as Delhi, Maharastra, West Bengal, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Andra Predesh. . Although all the groups of SCI India subscribe to a common constitution, their activities and programs are decided upon be their own respective elected committees.

SCI India aims to work on developing people’s initiatives; to organize themselves to solve their problems, provides opportunities for people of different countries to come together in an atmosphere of constructive work and working and living together.

SCI India has successfully conducted various youth induction programs, training programs, workshops and seminars to get more people involved, trained, motivated and oriented in social action. Further it has developed a strong work force to take lead in activities and issues related to forestry, environment, refugees, peace, and communal harmony, disability and women empowerment.

The main activity of the organization as follows:

Workcamps: The organization organizes workcamps two times in a year i.e July – August ( Summer Exchange ) and November – December ( Winter Exchange ) besides it can also organize workcamps with a short notice if there are six or more volunteers interested to participate in a workcamp.

Long Term Volunteer projects: The organization has its LTV projects in
Nangloi ( Delhi )- There are sewing class, tuberculosis medicine distribution and arts and crafts classes for children.

Rural Development Project, Vedanthangal: The project located in a famous bird sanctuary. There is a tailroing programme for young girls, tuition classes and computer classes for the village children are going on.
Earthquake Rehabilitation Programme: In Gujarat state, in Butch region, in a small village called Janan, where SCI India constructed a school building, library for the villagers with the financial support of SCI Japan.

Besides we can find placement service for volunteers to work along with voluntary organizations located in Chennai, Kanyakumari, Trivandrum, The Nilgiris and Karnataka. The organizations in these regions worked mostly for children, women and for tribal communities.
