Next steps

It’s time to look at what you are about to do next with the learnings you have gained in this online course. How will you become a peace educator in your everyday life?

In the next few slides, we will give you some hints how you could introduce peace education in your everyday life.

Living Peace

Be a peace educator on a micro level with people around you and in every context that you are in. By working on your own inner peace and by practising to be in peace with others, you can be an example towards a more peaceful world.

Get involved with organisations

Apart from working on yourself, a great way to do peace education is by getting active in an organisation that works on peace. There are many organisations and groups out there all over the world that you could join to spread peace education. One of them has created this course!

Service Civil International

Service Civil International – or short SCI – has branches and partner organisations in many countries all over the world that are committed to reaching a more peaceful world by organising volunteering and education projects. We are always looking for people to do workshops in our volunteering projects, to organise peace workshops on a local level, to support our social media work, etc. You could write to an SCI member in your country and ask them how you can get active with them! You can find the list of SCI members on this page.

Other peace organisations

There are many other peace organisations that do peace education and that look for peace educators like you. Examples include International Fellowship of Reconciliation, antimilitarist organisation War Resisters International, human rights organisation Amnesty International, environmental organisation Greenpeace. In addition to these, there are smaller peace organisations that work on a more national or local level that you could find via search engines and then approach them with a simple email. You can also join a political party in your country which you feel best strives for peace and justice.

Start your own project!

You want to be more independent or you can’t find a peace organisation in your local context? Then gather some friends and start your own peace project! Our module “How to educate for peace” has some tips and tricks on how you can start your own educational project in your own community.

Recommend this course

A really simple way of doing peace education is something you can do right now: Send the link to this course to 3 of your friends who might be interested in finding out more about peace and peace education as well!

Educate yourself further

Do you feel like you need more information to do peace education? Check out the many free resources on SCI’s website for more methods and tools on peace education. Inside each publication, you can find many more book recommendations, film recommendations, videos and so on that you can immerse yourself in.

Write yourself a letter

And a final tip: Often we forget about peace in our daily lives, because we are too caught up with what is happening in the moment. A good way to hold yourself accountable for your commitment to peace education is to write a short letter to yourself! We recommend you to go to the website FutureMe and to write an email to your future self! Remind yourself of ideas you have at the moment, remind yourself of resolutions you have after this course!
