North-South Communication

Because of the complexity of the topic, North-South Communication requires awareness of (neo)colonial history and its impact on people and power structures. European colonialism is the main cause of widespread poverty, political instability and the development of post colonial economies in the Global South, which will be further explained below.

North-South communication refers to communication between countries and people that were historically colonised and countries that were colonising. This is often perceived and misinterpreted as economically developed countries (typically located in the northern hemisphere, north side of the Equator) and economically developing countries (typically located in the southern hemisphere, south of the Equator). It involves issues and debates related to economic development, globalisation, and cultural exchange.
